Introduction
Description of the "Dual Life Flower Series"
The "Dual Life Flower Series" focuses on three traditional Chinese medicinal plants: peony, magnolia, and saffron. Through the growth, blossoming, and withering of flowers, it reflects on the essence of existence and humanity's quest for the unknown within the limits of a finite life.
In the artwork, the flowers symbolize the essence of life, with their originally complete forms continuously intersected, cut, and obscured by horizontal lines. This represents how individuals are influenced by memories, experiences, emotions, and external environments throughout their life journeys, making our perception of the "self" always seen through different layers of consciousness, thus rendering it difficult to truly reach the initial state of life.
The painting employs the red of vermilion to symbolize bloodlines and the continuation of life. The red acts like an invisible thread of life, flowing from the past to the present, and extending into an uncharted future. In contrast to the vividness of red, the white in the artwork represents the unknown and "emptiness," embodying humanity's imagination and inquiries regarding past and future lives—where do we come from, and where are we headed?
The work does not attempt to provide definitive answers about life; rather, through the interplay of flowers, horizontal lines, red, and white, it reveals the ongoing state of exploration between the "known" and the "unknown."
What we see as life may only be a fragment of existence; beyond this visible life, there remains a vast unknown waiting for consciousness to gaze upon it.
