Introduction
Description of the "Dual Flower Series"
The "Dual Flower Series" focuses on three Chinese medicinal plants: peony, magnolia, and saffron. Through the growth, blooming, and withering of these flowers, it contemplates the essence of existence and humanity’s quest for the unknown within a finite lifespan.
The flowers in the image symbolize the essence of life. Their originally complete forms are repeatedly traversed, cut, and obscured by horizontal lines, reflecting how people are influenced by memories, experiences, emotions, and the external environment throughout their life journey. This causes our perception of the "self" to be viewed through various layers of consciousness, making it difficult to truly reach the original form of life.
The work uses the red of cinnabar to symbolize bloodlines and the continuation of life. This red resembles an invisible thread of life, flowing from the past into the present and extending towards the yet-to-be-reached future. In contrast to the vividness of red, the white in the image represents the unknown and "emptiness," carrying humanity's imagination and inquiry about previous and future lives—where do we come from, and where are we going?
The work does not attempt to find precise answers to life but rather presents the continuous exploration of humanity between the "known" and the "unknown" through the obfuscation and manifestation of flowers, horizontal lines, red, and white.
What we perceive as life may only be a fragment of existence; beyond this visible life, there remains a vast expanse of unknown waiting for consciousness to gaze upon it.
