Introduction
"One Stroke for a Thousand Years: The 100-meter Long Scroll of the Dhammapada" is centered around the important Buddhist scripture, the "Dhammapada." Utilizing the Tibetan U-chen script, it transforms approximately 2,643 verses into an uninterrupted 100-meter-long text scroll. The "Dhammapada" embodies the Buddha's teachings on morality, meditation, wisdom, and pure practice. The creator, Tsangsa Gonka, engages in a solitary, prolonged writing process, making the classic not merely words to be read but an artwork created through the synergy of body, breath, and time.
Currently, the overall creation has exceeded 220 meters, with a long-term goal of reaching 400 meters. Each stroke captures not only the writer's understanding of Buddhist teachings but also embodies the Tibetan writing tradition, cultural memory, and the aspiration for the preservation of civilization.
Through the Bowy Arts VR Digital Collection, viewers can enter the scroll, observe the brushwork and text up close, and experience in virtual space the decades-long journey of one individual safeguarding the classics. This is not just a calligraphic work; it is a contemporary art piece that uses a classic as content, calligraphy as form, time as a medium, and aims at the transmission of civilization.
