Introduction
This work is composed of densely overlapping trunks, forming the main subject of the painting. The vertical lines are arranged in layers, creating an almost screen-like visual structure. Distant mountains and flying birds serve only as symbolic embellishments, preserving a sense of breath within the compressed space. Zhao Erdai abandons the expansive perspective of traditional landscape painting, opting instead to draw closer to the forest, allowing the viewing experience to become a silent gaze. The image lacks narrative and direction, yet it contains a profound inner order, reflecting the increasingly introspective spirit in his late works.
