Introduction
This piece is centered on the diagonal advancing mountain range, with thick, weighty ink blocks creating a striking contrast against the translucent light blue background. Zhao Erdi does not engage with the traditional layers of distance found in landscape painting; instead, he adopts an almost "close-up" perspective, allowing the mountain walls to dominate the view, forcing the viewer to enter into its structure and grandeur. Isolated tree shadows stand on the slope, like the marks of time, both stable and fragile. The soft light in the white space at the top of the painting prevents an overall heaviness, instead revealing a quietly flowing vitality, showcasing the artist's profound understanding of natural forces and internal balance in his later years.
