In Zhao Erdai's life, "broken heart" has a more concrete and profound source — the departure of his beloved wife from this world, never to return. It is not an abstract sense of loss, but the sudden absence of a figure in daily life, an empty dining table that no longer has anyone to sit across from, and a silence that no longer responds. After that, he moved to Penghu to live alone, away from the noise, transforming his unexpressed emotions into brushstrokes and clay amidst the sea breeze and tides. Art became his way of re-engaging in dialogue with the world, as well as the only place to reconcile his loss.
