Introduction
McDermott depicts fragments of urban life with pastel language: graffiti on concrete walls, the mottled windows of old buildings, and clothes hanging in the distance, all rendered with an exceptional realism within the layered structures of the city.
This artwork intertwines blocks of color and brush strokes to present the texture and rhythm of urban life. Although the scene lacks crowds and movement, it powerfully conveys the essence of daily life and the warmth of labor. The vibrant "DAZ" graffiti on the wall, along with splashes of red and white on the clothesline, forms a visual focal point and offers a reinterpretation of urban aesthetics—suggesting that even in decay and chaos, there lies order and color in life.
