Introduction
“Crossroads” depicts a street corner in the city at dusk, where light and shadow intertwine, and people and vehicles intersect, resembling a moment of life’s choices. The red and yellow intertwining neon lights, the reflections on the slightly wet pavement, and the slightly blurred sense of motion draw the viewer into a metropolitan emotion that is both familiar and detached.
The crossroads serve as a node of space and a convergence point of fate. Here, we choose directions, wait, or wander aimlessly in confusion. McDermott, with heavy pastel strokes and dynamic composition, elevates everyday street scenes into an abstract poetic expression of emotion and memory.
