Introduction
Rita Kirkman uses soft yet vibrant pastel vocabulary to depict a sleeping pig, presenting an almost human-like sense of tranquility and serenity. It lies comfortably on a bed of wood shavings, eyes closed and breathing steadily, with the entire scene suffused with a warm, dreamlike atmosphere.
The use of color is at the core of this work: light filters through the pig's pink ears, intertwining with the purples, oranges, and blues on its body, giving the still scene a sense of rhythm and emotion. Kirkman excels at extracting pure and poetic moments from everyday animals; the pig she portrays is not just an "animal," but an existence connected to human emotions.
