Introduction
In "Mont Saint-Michel," Sergei Pietilä does not directly depict the details of the famous landmark, but rather cleverly employs negative space and light and shadow to allow that sacred silhouette to subtly emerge between the gaps of the trees. The trees act like nature’s curtains, guiding the viewer toward the distant, ethereal holy structure. This is not just a landscape painting; it resembles a transition between memory and dreams, where the sacred is no longer a tangible existence, but can only be subtly glimpsed between light and emptiness.
