Introduction
This white pottery gui was unearthed from the Da Wen Kou cultural site in Tai'an, Shandong, dating back approximately 5,500 to 4,600 years. The vessel features an exquisite form, crafted from fine white clay and fired at high temperatures, exhibiting a pure white color and a hard texture. The gui was an important cooking utensil in ancient times, supported by three legs with a full and rounded belly, a long spout at the front for easy pouring, and a standing ear at the back for easy handling. This gui demonstrates a rigorous structure and harmonious proportions, reflecting the maturity of pottery craftsmanship and aesthetic progress during the Da Wen Kou culture period. In addition to its practical functions, it also serves as a testament to the early emergence of ritual vessels, making it a valuable piece of evidence for researching prehistoric social life, spiritual beliefs, and craftsmanship levels, showcasing the living wisdom and artistic achievements of our ancestors.
