Introduction
The flowing brushstrokes and large areas of blank space create the rhythm of the landscape. The layered ink subtly reveals changes in light and shadow, with the dark ink of the foreground forest resembling waves, while the distant mountains unfold in pale green-gray, forming a visual depth of interplay between reality and illusion. In this work, Zhao Erda abandons detailed depiction, favoring the 'force' of the brush, allowing the mountains and water to breathe in the essence of the scene. The piece showcases his ultimate exploration of "simple brushwork with profound meaning" in the mid-1970s, embodying the spirit of Dai-style landscape painting, "viewing the scenery through the heart."
