With the consistent theme of expressing the radiance of life itself, I create works in the forms of Japanese painting and ink wash painting. I avoid artificial materials, favoring simple, time-honored materials instead. For ink wash paintings, I use only sumi ink made from soot and animal glue—materials with a history dating back to ancient times—and paint on traditional Japanese hemp paper. For Japanese paintings, I use mineral pigments, ground and fixed with glue, to capture the essence of nature.
