Intro
“Mountain Village Scenery” is Chiu Chung-Chun’s 1978 homecoming work, drawing on memories of the Hakka village in Meinong. In the composition, the twisted, vividly alive old trees stand as Chiu’s signature “nostalgia motif”; the red-tiled three-section courtyards transcend mere architecture to embody the Hakka people’s cohesion and warmth of “home.” The rolling mountains of the Meinong Plain emerge and recede through layered blue textures—aptly described as “a perfect dialogue between nature and culture in this print.” The touches of green and yellow reflect Chiu’s early spirit of experimentation with materials and color, imbuing the piece with a rich poetic sensibility beneath its unassuming surface.
