This painting is based on Master Hong Yi’s poem “The Hen”: “The hen has many chicks, but favors one the most. The pampered one refuses to walk, always clinging to the mother’s back.” Feng Zikai’s Protecting Life Paintings Collection is complemented by poems written by Master Hong Yi, and this poem is one of them. In this painting, I made a slight adjustment to the poem’s theme, changing “favors one the most” to “favors two the most.” The two playful chicks cling stubbornly to their mother’s back, refusing to come down. The painting depicts the joy and genuine love of a mother hen doting on her chicks.
