" During the Tang dynasty, Lu Zhaolin wrote in “Resting at the Mountain Villa”: “In the tranquil pavilion, the crane’s cry is heard; at dawn by the window, the rooster’s crow.” Similarly, Tao Yuanming’s “Peach Blossom Spring” describes, “The moon shines on the quiet house beneath the pines; at sunrise, roosters and dogs can be heard.” Both poets praise the peaceful and leisurely life of a recluse in the mountains, where only the crowing of roosters breaks the silence at dawn. This reflects the importance of roosters in an ideal, happy life, as their morning crows mark the joyful start of each day. In Taiwanese tradition, the most important part of a bride’s dowry is a pair of “guiding chickens,” symbolizing the foundation of a new home (“Foundation”). This not only represents a blessing for family prosperity but also the hope for the joyous sound of rooster crows each morning, heralding a happy day ahead."
